Reel's 10-Second Object Walk

Make an everyday object walk across the table in a 10-second stop-motion film.

Builder handle: ____________________   Date: ____________

Materials

  • ☐ A phone or tablet with a camera (any stop-motion or photo app)
  • ☐ A small object: a shoe, a toy, a sock
  • ☐ A steady spot for the camera

Steps

  1. Lock the camera. Prop the phone so it cannot move between photos. Moving camera = shaky film. ☐
  2. Tiny moves. Move the object a finger-width, take a photo. Repeat. ☐
  3. Count frames. At 10 frames per second, 10 seconds is 100 photos. Aim for at least 50 for 5 seconds if you are new. ☐
  4. Play it back. Play your frames in order. Fix any jumpy part by adding in-between photos. ☐

Finish line

A stop-motion clip at least 5 seconds long where the object travels across the frame.

Finish line: Smooth enough that a friend can tell it is walking.

Check

  1. At 10 frames per second, how many photos make a 10-second film?
    • ☐ 10
    • ☐ 50
    • ☐ 100
    • ☐ 1000
  2. Your film looks shaky. The most likely cause is…
    • ☐ The camera moved between photos
    • ☐ The object is too small
    • ☐ Too much light
    • ☐ The app
